Can a younger man and his talented dog put a phobic screenwriter on the red arrivals carpet in time for the Academy Awards ceremony?

Chance looks like success. The white-hot gay screenwriter of the moment has wangled a coveted invitation to attend the Academy Awards. But Chance has a secret-- severe agoraphobia. Sometimes he can't even leave his building. He's tried everything. Nolan's idea is pretty out there, but Chance will do anything to reach his childhood dream.

"It's about show business, not monkey business..."

Nolan turns out to be red hot, but Chance needs to play it cool. He can't blow this opportunity. With the help of a quirky Jack Russell Terrier, the 25-year-old hired genius can train Chance to operate a telepresence robot from Manhattan to walk the red carpet for him in Hollywood. The stunt will be great publicity for both men.

"He's used to dating models and singers, not geeks..."

Training Chance leads to touching Chance, but Nolan tells himself to go slow. The sophisticated older man is way out of his league. So how did they end up together at a rooftop party on New Year's Eve? And will they still be together on Valentine's Day?

Expect an enthusiastic Jack Russell Terrier, a touch of angst, and a steamy gay romance with two men who intend to go slow but sometimes just can't help themselves. Complete with fireworks, chocolate, a Happy Ever After-- and maybe even a gold statue. This winter-themed novella is approximately 94 pages and can be read by the fire in a couple of hours.

Unfreezing edition by Parker Avrile Romance eBooks

Chance is screenwriter and a very successful modeling agent. He’s been invited to the Academy Awards where his first screen play receives an honorable mention? The only problem is he suffers from a form of agoraphobia and no one knows about his condition. But he thinks he’s found a solution in the form of a telepresence robot. In comes Nolan, the robot genius, who will set Chance up and train him on the use of his creation with the help of Bouncy, Nolan’s Jack Russell Terrier. As the two spend time together, their attraction builds but with Chance trying to hide his secret misunderstanding arises causing a rift between the two.

I enjoyed seeing Chance work through his illness/disability, seeing how serious his issue was and just getting to know him. Nolan was an interesting guy too and his telepresence robots and the way it worked was intriguing. I liked reading about Bouncy I wish there had been more scenes with him in it. He seemed like an awesome dog.

An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

Unfreezing edition by Parker Avrile Romance eBooks Reviews

I always enjoy Parker Avrile's books and Unfreezing is no exception. This winter themed novelette takes us on a different journey than that of Parker’s characters in the Runaway Model world.

Chance Lanconi and Nolan Condor are the main characters in this love story. Due to his agoraphobia Chance hires Nolan to make him a robotic likeness. One so life like he can operate it from the comfort of his own home while having a “presence” at the Academy Awards.

What Chance hadn’t counted on was his white hot attraction to Nolan. Which seems to be reciprocated; and is making it challenging for either man to remain professional.

Yet as smitten as they are over one another they find themselves struggling. Chance’s fear of leaving his home and Nolan’s insecurities over what he feels is being “nerdy”, plus their age difference, threaten to pull them apart before they can even get started.

But when push comes to shove they begin to see how the other lifts them up and where that support may lead them, individually, and as a partnership.

Parker describes Chance and Nolan, their lives and circumstances, and writes in such a way that engrossed me. I celebrated and cried right alongside this couple.

Unfreezing is a wonderful escape from everyday life. If you enjoy this book I can assure you you will also enjoy Parker’s The Runaway Model series.

With worlds that are truly beautiful and real life circumstances and situations that put you right there in the mix, Parker's magic is something that you don't want to miss.
"Expect an enthusiastic Jack Russell Terrier, a touch of angst, and a steamy gay romance with two men who intend to go slow but sometimes just can't help themselves." That's what the blurb said. I was ready for fun, sexy and enjoyable short read with the touch of angst. What I've got instead was boring, superficial and so not hot. The author says there's heat between the main characters, but I just couldn't feel it. The characters are described superficially with no depth and insufficient background. Lack of dialogue doesn't help either. That starts to look better at approximately 70% of this novella, but stumbles and falls on it's face later. The dog should provide some humor and entertainment when the MC's fail to do so, but guess what - it's not happening. If the angst angle was developed more, countered with some humor this could be an enjoyable read. I really don't like to write two star reviews, I prefer to say nothing at all, but I've received an ARC copy from Hidden Gems in exchange for an honest review.
I have never read anything by this author until now, I really liked this book. The premise was great. This is a subject you don't read often. It was a fairly quick read if you don't get interrupted. The writing was smooth. You were drawn in, a watched as the story unfolded. There are so many serious issues in this book. I loved how the author dealt with the emotions and the inner turmoil. This book may have some trigger warnings as it has to do with PTSD, anxiety issues as well as a hate crime.

Chance can't leave his house. I mean, he really can’t. He has agoraphobia. He can go here and there, but not crowds. He really wants to attend the Academy Awards, he will do what he can to attend. He becomes dependent on the robotic suit. My heart broke wide open for Chance.

Nolan designs the suit, that Chance wants so he can attend the awards ceremony, even though he isn’t nominated. He just doesn't want to miss it. I feel like Nolan is very dependent on his dog Bouncy, his Jack Russell Terrier. He to me is the buffer in his life. Oh by golly Bouncy was adorable. I loved him.

They both have a past, and I liked how they had a connection from the beginning. They felt this pull. Both Chance and Nolan had some obstacles to get past to be happy in the future. Reading about how Chance slowly came out of his comfort zone, wanting to leave his office/home and the little bakery. Again, it was a good read and if you like reading about m/m, May/December romance with a HEA this is the book for you.
This is one of the few m/m books I’ve read but I will read more. I really liked this book. It was handled with so many feelings of both characters. Nolan is a robot designer. Its way too possible to see where humans will use robots as more than a tool but rather as a stand in. It also breaks your heart how Nolan has been made to believe he is unlovable.

Chance is another story. You just want to take him home and help him realize how great he really is. I can see why he has become an agoraphobic. It breaks your heart to hear what he went through and the people who turned on him. His coming on to Nolan is the start of how they both work through their issues and how actual people can overcome their issues.

Even though it’s a little short, the characters are well developed and the romance and sex are handled perfect. I will be reading more by this author. I was given an ARC for a volunteer review and I’m glad it has given me a new author to follow.
