Stormy Surrender was an intensely emotional finale to the New Hope series. One could probably pick up the gist of the story by reading the third and final episode on its own, however it really does help to read the first two books. There was drama and tension and the malicious Finn just kept getting in the way, so that one feared she would eventually win the day. Marti and Joey had their work cut out for them trying to keep things on an even keel with Finn throwing surprises at them and Blaine withholding Marti's divorce papers. Interference comes from an unexpected source, however the ladies of New Hope were there with enough ice cream and cake to solve any problem. Miss Gracie comes into her own and proves that she is more alert than she'd been given credit for. Despite all the ups and downs, blackmail and coercion, the connection that was made the moment Marti and Joey met, still held and Marti never lost her unique brand of humour. The saga of Marti and Joey comes to a very satisfactory end. I really enjoyed this book.Product details

A dangerous psychopath wanted him and did everything possible to prevent him from marrying the woman he really loved. At times the writing style was very superficial, glossing over serious issues such as the loss of her baby, as well as the death of the deranged woman, with the minimum content. I feel the author should develop those areas more. The story will be richer for it. Other parts, like the easy camaraderie between him and his future wife were very pleasing.
What a great end to a beautiful series. Marti did everything right the first time around.. The perfect husband (or so she thought) being the supportive wife but it was all a lie. What she found with Joey was true and what relationships should be made of. Yes she did everything backwards with this one, sex before marriage, pregnant before marriage but it worked. Add in a town that knew everything about everyone. A town that will always protect their own. It was true knowing what Joey was like before Marti and then seeing the man he came to be because of her was what their relationship so worth while. Sometimes we have to have all the bad to appreciate all the good. Joey had Finn in his past and Marti had Blaine. You could not have any worse than those two. But it made them appreciate each other and cherish what they found with each other.
Stormy Surrender by Emma Nichols is the third book in the New Hope series. As with all of Emma Nichols' books, it is well written with interesting dynamic characters you'd like to meet and befriend. Marti is about 32 weeks into a high risk pregnancy, her estranged husband is trying to substantially reduce the divorce settlement and Joey's pressuring her to set a date for their wedding. But Marti has become a lot stronger and when Finn shows up once again, even though Marti struggles with some doubts, she and Joey pull together instead of apart. Finn has a master plan though, and through lies, deceit and finally blackmail, tries to ensnare Joey again. There is also a confrontation between Finn and Marti that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is an excellent read and I'd strongly recommend it. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I really didn't like this story. It was predictable, and I just didn't like the heroine. There were also some major plot issues at the most critical part of the story making it 100% non believable, and killed my mood for the rest of the book.
1) getting a C-section is a surgery. A women would not be up and moving around doing much of anything.
2) pepper spray when used affects all person's in the area of the spray. You cannot spray pepper spray and not be affected by it yourself (ask any police officer)
This is first time I have read a novel in this series,so I was unfamiliar with the past relationships between some of the characters.Marti and Joey are having an ultrasound of their new baby girl,due in two months.They are happy and executed when they go to lunch..At Hope House for lunch ,Marti is told she can never be happy with Joey.Disgusted,they leave to have lunch at IHOP.Joey says he is disappointed with their friends sitting in judgment of them when they don't know the whole story.Her friends feel sorry for Marti,because Joey has been unable to get away from his ex-girlfriend Finn,who says she is also pregnant with his baby and accuses Marti of pushing her down the steps.After lunch ,Joey visits Finn in the hospital and blackmailed Joey into picking her up they next day.She won't files charges against. Marti,if he picks her up.Finn breaks him down and makes him feel weak.
In the meantime,Marti goes for s walk and discovers her friends are in interfering with her divorce from Blaine.who won't easily let Marti go.She tells them to but out,she has her own lawyer and will deal with it.They once again warn her about Joey because he has a terrible track record of doing the right thing.Marti says it is up to them as a couple to overcome the past,and she believes they can do it.She tells Joey she needs him to be strong and tough and be het man.After picking Finn up the next day he has a very disturbing conversation with her.wondering how crazy she really is.He tells her he never wants to see Finn again.Their friends offer a show of support bring dinner over.Marti say they 're are blessed to such good friends.The next.morning, Marti goes to the doctor and is put on bed rest for the rest of high risk pregnancy.Joey has to work on town hall getting ready for Labor Day and Marti ends up alone at the house.She receives a text from one of Joe's crew that.he.needs her to open the supply shed to get some tools.Wen she arrives,Finn is there with a trader.Shhhhe knocks her out and Marti wakes up with her hands and feet tied up,and duct tape on her mouth.Finn has also given her location to speed labour up.
Will someone help her before it is too late?Finn tells her she killed Joeys father,set Joey's house on fire,that Joey had unknowingly changed the insurance policy,so it takes care of Finn band Joey's daughter because Marti will be out of the picture.To.me,the second half of the book was more exciting.A wonderful novel for those who believe love conquers all.
